9-Year-Old Chinese Model at Paris Fashion Week Raises Eyebrows

Paris Fashion week saw China’s youngest child model hit the catwalk for her second tour of haute couture. Xiu Qiu is 9-years-old and being praised for her poise and grace in the face of hundreds of cameras and onlookers. She walked in Laurence Xu’s show for the second time, but her relation to Xu is unknown.

In the Chinese media, Xu is being accused of nepotism among other scandalous headlines. Xu has become a huge success in China after dressing mega star, Fan Bing Bing, at Cannes with a stunning one shouldered gown. He was also the only Chinese designer invited by Chambre Syndicale to participate in the Paris Haute Couture shows.

The child-bride vibes ran rampant at the end of the show when Xu and Qui––who was wearing an off white brocade gown––walked hand-in-hand down the runway. However, in China, brides normally wear red while white is reserved for mourning. It’s unlikely Xu had any notion of wedding bells as he took his final bow.
