Alexander Wang’s Sultry Goth Runway at NYFW

Alexander Wang debuted his fall 2015 show at New York Fashion Week this Saturday to a star studded audience. The entire collection was black; minus a few fishermen sweaters, dark plaid jackets, and denim jeans. The influence from goth, lolita, and heavy metal ran rampant from head to toe.

Wang said, "Our customer wants black, so why not do an all-black collection?" There were nods to the rock band KISS in the frankenstein-styled boots and to Marilyn Manson in the models greased down hair. The clothes themselves were less extreme than their radical styling.

Black is a very difficult color to work with, as it comes up flat in photographs, so Wang had to make the color malleable by using textures. The use of velvet, leather, and silk all helped to accomplish a more vibrant black on the runway. Jackets and dresses were lined with silver ball-and-chain hardware detail to give the outfits more shape.

Kendall Jenner wore a fitted top and long flowing skirt all trimmed with the line’s trademark chain and is being called ‘the most romantic evening look of Wang’s career’, by Style.
