Sansui Summer Cup 2014 – Highlights from South Africa

Nomuzi “Moo-zlie!” Mabena presents an insider view of “the beautiful people and beautiful fashion and a beautiful time all around” at Johannesburg’s oldest and most revered first-grade horse race, the SANSUI Summer Cup. This event is one of the city’s most highly anticipated events of the year for fashionistas and sports fanatics alike.

Guests wore their finest outfits, doing their best to win cash prizes such as Most Striking Hat, Best-Dressed Female, Best-Dressed Male, and Best-Dressed Couple.

Candice Els, a student, gave her thoughts on the event: “I think the event is absolutely amazing. Everyone looks absolutely beautiful, and you just can see that everyone’s put so much effort into it.”

Benjamin and Lindie won 15,000 South African rand as Best-Dressed Couple. “Well it’s a fabulous event, and the first time I’ve ever been to any race or horse race event so it’s awesome,” he told Fashion One. “It’s fabulous, darling, it’s fabulous,” chimed in his partner in crime.

Young Designer winner, Palesa Mokubung, revealed, “The theme this year was ‘color to conquer’, which basically gave you the freedom to go red and bold and wild. It’s got boning and all sorts of things at the back, and it’s got wings, so it looks like it’s literally about to fly off. I also had to add something a little bit unconventional, a little bit offbeat. To be the winner at my first horse racing event— I’m quite chuffed!”

A music- and dance-filled after-party at the MTV Base Sound Experience followed the main event.
