New York Fashion Week and Alexander Wang’s New Denim Line

New York Menswear Week
In New York, one of the world’s fashion capitals, mens fashion shows have typically co-existed alongside womenswear shows. However this calendar seems set to change with the New York Times reporting that, in response to American designers agitating for a separate week, the Council of Fashion Designers of America has been circulating emails to gauge interest in a distinct menswear week that would be held in July. American menswear designers have spoken about the lack of a standalone week for mens buyers as being a compelling reason to move their operation and shows to Europe.

David Beckham’s New Lifestyle Brand
Ex-footballer and celebrity David Beckham along with his business partner, English entrepreneur and television producer Simon Fuller is launching a new lifestyle brand. A partnership with Hong Kong based consumer goods firm Global Brands Group, which according to their statement will develop “…the Beckham brand globally in new consumer product categories”. The agreement will see David Beckham and Simon Fuller own 50% of the venture while Global Brands will own the other 50%. David Beckham is no stranger to the world of fashion with collaborations in recent years, with brands including H&M, Belstaff and Adidas.

Denim x Alexander Wang
With the media and consumers still abuzz from the success of his H&M collaboration, the powerhouse of Alexander Wang shows no sign of slowing down with the launch of Denim x Alexander Wang, his new women's denim line. The collection will initially launch with three cuts in three distinct washes selling at Alexander Wang's New York flagship and his online store. The line has been launched with a campaign of hyper-sexual images, featuring oiled up model Anna Ewers, wearing a pair of the Alexander Wang jeans pulled down and her hand positioned to suggest masturbation. Alexander Wang speaking about the controversial campaign said he wanted the images to provoke the viewer, to stand out from the deluge of denim on the market.
