Water and Oil

There are photographers, and then there is Steven Meisel. When it comes to capturing beautiful, poignant fashion images, Meisel is in a league of his own. His latest shoot for Vogue Italia is titled Water and Oil. It features Kristen McMenamy washed up on a rocky shoreline, covered in oil, fish netting and other pollution. Meisel masterly combines fashion, photography and social commentary to create a dark, but staggeringly beautiful series of images of our time. We applaud Vogue Italia for having the guts to run such an unusual and controversial editorial! It really helps to prove that fashion can be as meaningful and socially relevant as any other art form.
