National Showcase

Perth Fashion Festival: The National Showcase The National showcase, a history making event for Perth Fashion Festival took place for the first time at Fashion Paramount in the WA museum. The event saw four east coast designers showcasing looks from their latest collections, the festival now in its 14th year primarily showcases local designers though has attracted interstate designers such as Magdalena Velevska and Yeojin Bae to do solo shows in the past. Perth Born, now Sydney based X-Factor star Johnny Ruffo, chatted pre-show with spectators and friends. Kuwaii, a Victorian label took to the runway first showcasing looks from the SS12/13 collection ‘Landscape’. The colour palette of the collection reflective of the Australian landscape, saturated with poppy, aqua paired back with soft desert colours. House of Wilde label of well-known designer Alice McCall was next to exhibit with a strong SS12/13 collection, it featured sequin hot pants, embellished skater dresses, tunic and plenty of knit. Limedrop impressed with their collection “The Discovery”, which featured some bold prints and techno-Egyptian panelled body cons. They also showcased some of their men’s collection, models dressed again in bold print, a key focus of the two designers Clea Garrick and Nathan Price. They recently won the ‘Australian Fashion Excellence Showcase’ award that saw them hit the runway at London Fashion Week. To finish out the impressive affair was one of the more recognisable names Shona Joy. The latest collection ‘Glass Ceilings’ kept things simple and breezy with structured blazers, a standout pair of polkadot pants and a selection of shorts.
