Amsterdam Fashion Week

Amsterdam Fashion Week is officially a wrap. The low lands launched Amsterdam Fashion Week in 2004 as an initiative to put Amsterdam on the map as a sparkling and internationally oriented fashion capital. Twice a year Amsterdam celebrates its national fashion talents with a broad range of catwalk shows, trade fairs, presentations and parties. The venue took place for the 18th time and was characterized by the immense number of young talents presenting their autumn/winter 13-14 collection to the big audience. Emerging as well as established Dutch fashion designers were featured during a five days program.

The starting shot was for the first time in the honour of iNDiViDUALS, a platform for young creatives organized by Dutch Fashion Institutes. The collection featured lots of black, metallics, pvc fabrics and statement accessories, referring to the intergalactic trend. Day two showed some surprising young designers such as Marije de Haan. The designer presented her fourth menswear collection. Inspired by the theme Lucifer, her collection was a great example of uncommon conceptual fashion. Marije de Haan pushes the boundaries of fashion with a collection existing of mainly black, grey and white silhouettes, striped patterns, lace masks, headpieces, capes and even a veil construction. The day was topped off by Claes Iversen who stunned the audience with a collection that was perfectly balanced between ready-to-wear and haute-couture. One of the recent autumn/winter 12-13 prevailing trends, the focus on the waist, was the centerpiece of Iversen's 'Un tied' collection for next season. The sculptural designed dresses and flowy maxi skirts were absolute showstoppers with a perfect dose of glamour. A top to shoes look in one color, such as black, white, beige and light turquoise, gave the collection a fresh and clean look.
