Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York: Jenny Packham

The scene is set. The Jenny Packham SS14 Catwalk Collection is loosely influenced by the Australian cult film. Set in 1900, the story is both beautiful and haunting; a party of girls from a boarding school.

The young women of the 1975 Australian cult flick "Picnic at Hanging Rock" were Jenny Packham's Spring muses. Set in an Edwardian boarding school, the film's period costumes were cast in the glow of seventies celluloid. To give off that vibe, Packham combined high necks with prairie silhouettes, and collar embellishments with warm colors like rust, burgundy, and blush pink.

Jenny Packham doesn't let the love she's gotten from Kate Middleton stop her from delivering a royal fashion fest for fashion week. "She flatters a woman's curves and she really knows how to help and flitter women’s curves

Inspired by the exquisite styling of the film – seventies take on austere Edwardian attire, the SS14 Collection fuses classic 70’s prints with traditional embellishments and materials championed at the turn of the 20th Century. Polka dots, checks and stripes are mimicked in beautiful pearl and Swarovski beading. Brick red, cobalt blue and lime green tones are contrasted with a delicate array of soft powder pinks and silver marbles. Translucent, weightless organza adds a whimsical romance to the collection whilst waists clinched with satin ribbons reference the silhouettes of the Edwardian era.

Christina Hendricks sat front row alongside journalist and presenter, Louise Roe and UK Vogue Editor in Chief, Alexandra Shulman. Christina Hendricks wore a montera blue cocktail dress from the AW13 Collection and Louise Roe in a AW13 sugar pink tea length skirt with a SS13 ivory embellished top.

Sheer and flowing layers literally glide down the runway. Form fitting & figure flattering silhouettes capture the eyes and retain them. Ultra glamorous silk makes a compelling appearance. In one case she has paired a billowing silk skirt with a textured, cropped & beaded sweater & I just LOVE the look. In yet another she revives Boudoir Style Hollywood Glam with a dreamily romantic & ultra feminine silk gown. Impressive as always, Jenny Packham has designed yet another ultra rich & beautiful formal collection.
