Before she became the high fashion lady and Hollywood’s favorite on the red carpet what was our princess up to?

Lupita Nyong’o is a force whether in Hollywood or back home in Kenya and her love for acting and campaigns are one of the things that define her.

She started acting at a very tender age and featured in several plays at the Phoenix theatre in Nairobi.

In the year 2009 she became the talk of many Kenyans as she was featured in the hit series Shuga. The series was all about LOVE, SEX AND MONEY and was featured on MTV base as part of an initiative campaign “MTV staying alive Ignite”

In season one Lupita acted as a modern girl Ayira, who knew what she wanted and how to get it. In order to get what she wanted, despite having a longtime relationship with her lover Ty she developed passion with an older man.

In the year 2010 the series banged an award at the World Media Festival in Hamburg, Germany in the Public Relations Health category for its vivid and uncompromising focus on love, emotions and sexual behavior among the Kenyan youth.

In that same year when interviewed by the BBC about the series Lupita said “I have been able to be an ambassador for HIV which is something I hadn't thought I would be, I think one thing the campaign is trying to do especially through sugar is talk about how HIV and AIDS is not a death sentence,” she continued, “ it is a really, really important thing and that is part of getting rid of the stigma, this is a condition that can be managed, if one chooses to do so, if one catches it early on you can live a healthy life with HIV.”

And when she was not acting or being an ambassador for campaigns Lupita enjoyed going for events such as blankets and wine, an event that occurs once a month in Kenya, to enjoy good afro music such as afro fusion, afro soul, afro-jazz, ethnic music under the sunlight with a bottle of wine, a picnic basket, and a blanket with friends and family.

And now even in Hollywood she continues to be who she is with much poise and charisma.

After her twelve years a slave debut, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and two Screen Actors Guild Awards including Best Supporting Actress, which she won. She was also awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.

Being a child of two nations born in Mexico and being Kenyan, she made history by becoming the first African actress to win the award, the first Mexican actress to win the award, and the first Kenyan to win an Oscar. She is the sixth actress to win the award and also became the fifteenth actress to win an Oscar for their debut performance in a feature film.

Let’s not forget as she walked the red carpet the world of fashion couldn't help but marvel at her beauty and sense of style. Lupita was the face of Miu Miu during spring summer and now she has been handpicked by Lancôme to be one of spokes model. She is going to be among other Hollywood big names such as Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penélope Cruz and Lily Collins.

According to the statement made by the French Brand Lupita was picked because of her instinctive and sophisticated talent and one of a kind beauty, both delicate and strength-exuding, has taken the world by storm.

As she said, “No matter where you come from your dreams are valid,” and I couldn't agree with her more.
